What are Restylane® treatments?
Q-Med’s Restylane® is a revolutionary range of treatments for reducing the effects of wrinkles and lines. The treatment uses injections performed by a fully qualified medical nurse. The Restylane® gel injected is a biotechnologically produced version of hyaluronic acid, a tissue friendly substance that occurs naturally in the body. This instantly fills out the skin to reduce the effects of wrinkles and lines making your skin look smoother and younger. The injected gel is NOT collagen and it is NOT Botox.
Nutrients, oxygen and hormones are able to pass freely between the Restylane® gel particles, leaving skin natural and health looking. As the gel breaks down, water takes its place and when totally absorbed the gel disappears unnoticed from the body. It biodegrades naturally and safely. The gel is non-animal, being produced through a biotechnological process under laboratory conditions.
The effect is not permanent, it last for approximately 6 months in the lips and around 12 months when used in the smoothing of facial lines.
The treatment is safe, effective and long lasting. Moreover, it does not require allergy testing. Restylane® gel has largely replaced collagen as the preferred dermal filler for UK cosmetic experts.
What’s involved?
An initial consultation is given to check any medical history and to agree on the best type of treatment for the client.
A consent form will then have to be signed to confirm the client has understood what the treatment will involve and that they are aware of the potential side effects.
Photographs will be taken before and after the treatment to assess the results.
An anaesthetic cream will be applied to the area for 20 minutes prior to the treatment. This helps to numb the area to be treated and reduces pain when the needle is inserted into the skin.
What happens afterwards?
Recovery time can be from a few hours to one day. However, you can go back to your activity after the treatment.
Does it hurt and what are the side effects?
Depending on the area injected and the type of filler or pain control used, patients may find the procedure relatively painless to mildly uncomfortable. Treatment on more sensitive areas such as the lips may be slightly uncomfortable.
The obvious immediate side effect is of slight bleeding after the needle has been inserted into the skin.
If the client has a history of cold sores or fever blisters, a prescription of anti-herpes medicine will be required before the treatment to help reduce the likelihood of an outbreak or cold sores.
Who should NOT have the treatment?
Pregnant women: derma fillers have not been tested on pregnant women so their use would normally not be advised.
Persons with disease of the auto-immune system such as lupus.
Persons with a history of anaphylactic shock.
How long does it take?
Treatments normally take no more than 30 minutes.
Before and after RESTYLANE® treatment on the the nasolabial folds.
How much does it cost?
The price is based on a per-syringe basis since every requirement is different it is difficult to say before consultation exactly how much Restylane® will be required but it is normally no more than three syringes and often less. See pricing for details.
